    Staying Focused

Do you find yourself getting distracted? Instead of majoring on the major, minoring on the minor, it became the opposite. Setting goals is one thing, putting them into action and achieving it is another. Here are some realization things that one should do to propel one towards achieving your goals:

    1. Dwell on things that are useful, helpful in achieving your goals.

I have a friend who is looking for a job. Whenever, I meet her she will dwell and talk about negative things like her workload, no response from the job agency etc. Instead of channeling her energy to useful and helpful ways to secure an opening, she will spent her energy on negative things that she cannot change. Instead of moving forward, she is moving in circles. The more she talked about it, the more negative vibes she will emanate. It became like a vicious circle. Of course, she is still presently in the same job and has not move forward.

There will be things that we cannot change and situations that arose. However, when one chooses to focus on these things, it is difficult not to feel down because it’s beyond one’s ability to change these things. Instead, choose to focus on things that it’s within your control to change, like my attitudes, responses and outlook. Yes, things may be trying but when one chooses to rise above these circumstances, even though things may be trying, it will not pull you down and stop you from moving forward.

    2. In all things, we have a choice

Coming back to the example of my friend, I noticed that she has put herself in a position where she feels powerless. These will involve not just her work but her personal life as well. When one put oneself in this position, the person is shackled.

It does not mean when our circumstances remain status quo, we are powerless. Focusing on this way of thinking is liberating, as it does not shackle us. It’s a choice too, what we choose to we fixed our minds on. If we fixed our minds on thinking who powerless and overwhelming our situation is, we will be pulled down. Conversely, by focusing our thoughts on the positive possibilities of our situation, it will enable us to soar like an eagle above the situation.

Staying focused is not built overnight. It takes a concerted effort to move towards achieving one’s goals. However, the effort put in will spread positively across the different areas in your life
