Journey towards self discovery Part 6 - Are you tired of Waiting?
By Lois Setoh | March 28, 2008
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven :
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to uproot,
A time to kill and a time to heal,
A time to tear down and a time to build,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
A time to embrace and a time to refrain,
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend,
A time to be silent and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate,
A time for war and a time for peace.

Continuing my sharing on my journey of self discovery, I learnt something very valuable. There is a time for everything and it consist of “Waiting”.
In life, we will encounter different seasons. Just like the four seasons – winter, summer, autumn and spring, each of them has their beauty and purpose.
Earlier on, I had shared that I’m in the midst of making a transition in my work. I was pondering and wandering through the “maze”. There was much uncertainty. Living in a fast paced society does not help in deciphering through the maze. We are always on the move and being still is a challenge. Outwardly, we may not be moving. However, inwardly, my heart is running around and the mind is moving non stop. Sounds familiar?
When I was placed in a position of being still and waiting(not willing at first!), I began to see the benefits and the importance of waiting. It is not aimless waiting for something to happen. However, it is a period where we can take stock of our lives. It’s like doing a stock take at this point of our lives.
Due to my stint in waiting, I began to appreciate the benefits of waiting.
1. It brings about a clearer perspective about our lives
When I was in this state of waiting, I began to reflect and look back at my life. What have I been doing and the reasons for doing what I did. It brought back to me of what is important in my life. It is not the things but people that are the most important – my family and friends.
Our physical bodies need to rest too! The constant running around will bring about wear and tear. This is a good opportunity to recuperate and rest. After charging our batteries, we will be in a better shape to run the next lap.
3. It’s a time to strengthen your present position so as to launch into the new direction
Strangely, Waiting has the ability to build this inner strength in a person’s life. When we learn to enjoy waiting, we will see a breakthrough in ourselves. From this breakthrough, a new You will arise that will be the foundation that will bring you to the new direction in your life. Things that were unclear will now be clear. Through the reflection and pondering, it helps one to consolidate the inner resolve and confidence to propel you to the next level.
I’m glad I waited and went through this stage. It brought a clearer view to my path and what my next direction will be.
My friend, if presently, you seemed unable to move and are left in a state of waiting, do not fret. There is a time for everything. At this point, it may be waiting. Enjoy these quiet moments and make full use of them. When it’s time to move on, you will rise up to the next challenge.
