Journey towards self discovery Part 2 - Taking Action
By Lois Setoh | February 1, 2008
This is a continuation from my previous article – Letting Go.
This week, I had a conversation with a friend which revealed the stumbling block that was in my life. I would like to share excerpts of the conversation that I had.
Me : I’m stuck. I know what I’m doing presently is not my interest yet I’m
not sure what I should do.
Friend : How about doing an analysis of your interests?
Friend : From your analysis, narrow down the options that are available and
TAKE ACTION.
The last 2 words jolted me up. Yes, all we need to do is to take action. We could engage top notch consultants to do an analysis. Upon completion, a report will be provided and probably the consultation fee will burn a hole in your pocket. However, we will still remain the same and things will not change. It will lead to more frustration and self doubt as this is like a vicious circle.
The simple thing that we need to do is to JUST TAKE ACTION.
However, why do we struggle in doing so?
A few reasons :
1. Fear of the unknown in moving to a new area
2. Unwilling to move out of our comfort zones
3. Paralysis of analysis – Too caught in the analysis and reanalyzing again and again. In the end, it took centrestage and no action was taken.
4. Do not know where to start and just remain in this stage
What is the reason that you are giving yourself? It’s time to stop and not waste time.
Presently, I’m looking into moving to a new direction in my work. Initially, I do not know where to start and this thought was revolving in my mind. I began an active search by asking people around me. The answer did not come overnight. After I found the key to start, I found that it was easier to progress on. Now, I have done my analysis of my interests and have zoomed into several options.
What about you? What are you hesitating? If I may borrow the slogon from NIKE, Just Do It.
