I’m thankful for today! What about you?

    By Lois Setoh | November 26, 2007

Life is an interesting teacher. For every lesson that we encounter, there’s an opportunity to grow and develop the gems within us.

Recently, I have been feeling the strain of my work. At times, I would be disheartened with the workload and the monotony of work and life. Feelings of frustration would overwhelm me. These negative feelings drain me and would pull my spirits down. Have you ever had days that just seemed to pull you down? You may be wondering whether you have woke up on the wrong side of the bed and the blues have become a companion. Take heart, my friend, you are not alone.

A remedy that I discovered recently is to combat this area is to be THANKFUL.

When you choose to be thankful, it frees your mind from the negative to the positive. We began to release ourselves from the situation thereby freeing ourselves. It is no point focusing and dwelling on the situation. Imagine with me, these burdens that you are carrying are now offloaded from you. How do you feel – Lighter?

What are the things that one can be thankful?

Just look around you. What do you see? No matter how trying the situation may be, we can always be thankful.

To share an incident with you that showed me the ‘lightening’ power of thankfulness, I was travelling home from another late night at work, drained and tired. Practising what I have learnt, I saw a truck filled with workers who came from overseas to work. They were all cramped at the back of the truck. They too had a hard day’s at work and are feeling exhausted. Looking at them, I’m thankful that I still had the luxury to travel comfortably in a bus with a seat on my way home instead of cramping into the back of a truck. When I looked beyond myself, feelings of frustration began to seep out from me.

Little surprises in life are often overlooked and undervalued. Yet, they have a way to brighten and sparkle our lives. Are you thankful for the little things in life? Look at them and they will bring sparkle.

Today, I’m thankful that i have the opportunity to take a short rest though I’m having shoulder and back pain. It’s a rest long overdue! What are you thankful for today?
