    Building Consistency in Your Life

    By Lois Setoh | October 3, 2007

Recently, I find myself like a car engine that has problem getting started. It’s like attempting to start the car but it just would not get started no matter how hard i turned the car keys. Do you have moments like these in your life? You have started something in your life. However, you find yourself going nowhere.

Whenever I set a new goal for myself, initially, I will be very hyped up. As time goes, the hype began to dwindle and fizzle out. Procrastination, distraction and excuses began to come along. This adds on to the frustration as it is like a vicious circle.

Setting goals is easier than achieving them. So how then do we keep the momentum after the hype has died down?

    1. Know clearly why you want to achieve these goals

The difference between success and mediocrity is in the achievement of your goals. To propel one towards reaching those goals, you need to know why you want to achieve them. Setting and not doing anything is merely talking in thin air. Do you know why you want to achieve those goals? Have a compelling reason that will take you out of your many excuses to propel you forward.

    2. Take action NOW

Whether you will be successful depends largely in taking consistent action. Before consistency is built, start with building your momentum. Get yourself moving FIRST. Do something.

Thinking about your goals and not taking action will lead you nowhere. It will bring you back to the same situation.

    3. Start with ONE thing first

The journey to keep on taking action isn’t a bed of roses. Distraction, work or other factors can draw one easily away from the main priority. To build the momentum, we start with just one area in our lives first. It could be your health, work, relationships or anything in your life. By starting with this ONE thing, it will also help you to focus and build the momentum in the other areas of your life. Slowly, build the momentum that you have built in that areas to the other areas that you would like to change.

For eg. If you would like to improve your well being by exercising 3 times a week, start with building the momentum this area of your life and then moving onto other areas. This will help to foster confidence and keeping it simple.
